This website features films and archive drawn from the Zimmedia film company – founded by Ingrid Sinclair and Simon Bright in Zimbabwe in 1985 to produce documentary and fiction films.
Zimmedia Productions were instrumental in the development of Southern African cinema during the 1980s and 1990s. The research upon which this website is based examines the collaboration between cinema movements in Southern Africa started by the the Insitute Nacional de Cinema in Mozambique and developed through regional co-productions initiated by Zimmedia. The transnational Southern African cinema movement grew through the First Frontline Film festival and the Southern African Film festivals, which became creative cauldrons where co-operation grew and regional co-productions were hatched.
